MEMORY SPHERES are sculptures crocheted in audio tapes, magnetic tapes with mixmusic from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The sculptures in the suitcase travels around the world and the archive of memories is under work. New sounds and new sculptures are added, the memory archive is growing and is influenced by time passing, by new places, by encounters. Technological development has made the magnetic tapes obsolete. The sounds, the music once recorded in the bands have been digitized and processed to new soundpieces with help from Lars Åkerlund at EMS studios in Stockholm. Since 2005 when Memory Spheres was first shown in the exhibition Mobile Units at IASPIS in Stockholm, the work has been exhibited at Istanbul Biennale 2005, different venues in Stockholm 2006-08, in Uppsala 2008, and in Kaunas Art Biennale 2009, recently at Trollhättans Konsthall 2015. The piece was developed between 2005 and 2009 and since then it is a ”permanent” archival work: A small archive over a selection of personal music recordings made by Dan Larsson (1951-1986) and also a celebration over the casette tape technique that existed during a limited period in the 20th century, all reshaped as sound and sculptures 2005-09.
